2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry

十月. 17, 2025

BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Stockholm, Oct. 8 -- The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on the 8th that the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be awarded to Tetsuro Kageyama, Richard Robson, and Omar M. Yaghi for their contributions to the development of metal-organic frameworks, with each receiving an equal share of the 11 million Swedish krona prize.

In the news release issued that day, the award committee noted that the winners had created molecular structures with large cavities, allowing gases and other chemicals to flow within. These materials, known as "metal-organic frameworks," can be used to collect moisture from desert air, capture carbon dioxide, store toxic gases, or catalyze chemical reactions. Hainer Linke, President of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry, stated that metal-organic frameworks hold immense potential, offering unprecedented opportunities for the development of customized materials with novel functionalities. According to the Nobel Prize official website, Seishi Hasegawa was born in Japan in 1951 and is currently a professor at Kyoto University in Japan; Richard Robson was born in the UK in 1937 and is a professor at the University of Melbourne in Australia; Omar M. Yaghi was born in Jordan in 1965 and is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley in the United States. (End)
